LETTER FROM DG

MEDICAL MISSION TO MADAGASCAR
www.rotary3291.org/madagascar.htm
Dear Presidents,
Greetings from Dist 3291/3240!
You would recall that in last two Rotary years, we could translate
our great dreams into humanitarian deed, when joints Rotary
Medical Missions from Districts 3240 and 3291 (3290) visited
Sierra Leone and Nigeria in Africa and achieved wonders by crossing
geographical borders and touching the lives of more hundreds of
needy patients…making a difference in the life of these people.
Inspired by the success of these great Missions, I am encouraged
to put into action another dream project – a Medical Mission to
Madagascar. The Mission would comprise of Rotary doctors in the
field of Ophthalmology, ENT Care, Dentistry, and General surgery,
Gynecology, Anesthesiology and Orthopedics.
Surgical procedures would include cataracts and glaucoma in
Ophthalmology; contracture release and fixations in Orthopedics;
extractions and root canal treatment in Dental Surgery; hernias
and thyroid goiters in General Surgery; massive fibromas and
prolapses in Gynecology; general, local and intravenous anesthesia
in Anesthesiology, etc etc.
The Mission is being inspired, as before, by our beloved PRIP
Rajendra K Saboo, and would be a joint project between
R I Districts 3240 and 3291.
The Mission would be an opportunity to enrich one's experience
in surgery with the warmth of African hospitality. Team members
shall cherish the memories and treasure the friendships lifelong.
We have more than 400 doctors in district 3291 from various
disciplines represented from almost all the clubs. I seek reference
of doctors ready to volunteer their time and service for this noble
mission for about two weeks sometime in April 2009.
The health authorities of Madagascar may set a minimum medical
qualification as eligibility requirement for giving permission to work
in the country. While Indian doctors in general do command
respect and honor for their capabilities, a foreign country like
Madagascar might evaluate a doctor simply by degree held
by him/her.
We would, therefore, give preferential selection of doctors holding
Postgraduate degrees from reputed Indian medical institutions
such as AIIMS, New Delhi or PGI, Chandigarh. British degrees
would, of course, be readily acceptable to most foreign countries.
The references should be sent to my office by Club Presidents
(duly countersigned by prospective Team member) on or before
5th October 2008 for selection with a passport size photograph
and brief bio-data. Please contact Asst Governor Rtn Vishnu
Dhandhania (e-mail dhandhania.vishnu@gmail.com )
for any clarifications.
With best regards
Nayantara Pal Choudhury
